PLAINFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Harry Benton, D-Plainfield, is announcing the creation of a 97th District Youth Advisory Council. The Council is open to district residents aged 14 to 22, and is intended to promote involvement by young people in state government. The Council’s first meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m., Feb. 25 at Benton’s district office, 24047 Lockport St. in Plainfield. Benton plans to hold meetings every other month.

“Young people should be stakeholders in their future, because much of politics and public policy will affect their lives,” Benton said. “I believe very strongly in encouraging their participation in the political life of our state, and that’s why I’m forming this Council.”

Meetings are to be held every other month on a Saturday. Young people who want to be advocates for their community or who are interested in state government are encouraged to participate.

Benton’s constituent service office can be reached at 815-254-0000 or info@repharrybenton.com.
