SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s annual State of the State and Budget Address, state Rep. Cyril Nichols, D-Chicago, released the following statement:
“We’ve done a lot of work to move Illinois forward, and that work is far from over. We’ve seen how rising costs, gun violence, and public health emergencies often take the greatest toll on those communities that have been historically excluded and underserved. So we need to make sure that the work we’re doing to rebuild Illinois’ fiscal house will mean positive change for those in the greatest need.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to make smart investments in our schools, in job opportunities, in addressing the root causes of crime, and building communities that work for us all. That work begins with a state budget that is both fiscally and socially responsible, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the governor to get that done.”
