CHICAGO – Following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State and Budget Address Wednesday, state Rep. Michael Kelly, D-Chicago, issued the following statement of support.
“In the short time I’ve had the privilege of serving in the people’s House, I’m proud to have been able to play a role in paying off lingering debts and improving the state’s credit rating for the first time in a generation, stepping up to protect the rights of women and to have walked alongside my colleagues as they imagined a future in which access to justice does not depend on the size of a person’s bank account.
“While many challenges remain before us, we know that fiscally and socially responsible budgets are the path forward.
“In particular, we need to further protect and support our brave first responders, address the shortage of mental health care services in underserved communities and regions, and to continue to improve public safety for every community in our state. I am looking forward to making further strides toward these important goals so that we can move Illinois forward.”
