SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, released the following statement in response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address on Wednesday:

“Gov. Pritzker’s address today marks the beginning of negotiating this year’s budget, arguably one of the most significant responsibilities we undertake as lawmakers. Through extensive analysis and collaboration, we will work to fund critical services and support our communities. Within the last few years, our budget has helped us make tremendous progress rebuilding Illinois’ fiscal house by eliminating the backlog of unpaid bills, shoring up our rainy day fund and earning Illinois our first credit rating upgrades in decades. I will do all that is necessary to make sure our state continues down the path of fiscal responsibility so we can create a stronger, more stable Illinois for generations to come.

“As a strong advocate for our community, I plan on thoroughly reviewing the budget and meeting with local leaders and stakeholders to hear their concerns as we work to support working and middle class families. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to craft a balanced budget that funds critical services like education and health care while still strengthening Illinois’ economy.”
