CHICAGO – State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, will prioritize expanding child care access to low-income families, working with community stakeholders on improving judicial procedures and utility access and safety for Illinois motorists in her positions on key House committees for the new legislative session. Delgado will serve as vice chair of the Public Utilities Committee and as a member of other key committees.

“It is critical that we put forward a bold, effective and forward thinking legislative agenda that makes lives better for Illinois families,” said Delgado. “In my committee positions, I will make it my priority to fight for fairer licensing so that working income families can start businesses, target malpractice and encourage accountability for our public utilities and gaming institutions. We have many challenges to face this upcoming year, and I am ready and willing to meet this moment for everyone across the state.”

In addition to the Public Utilities vice chair position, Delgado is a member of the Financial Institutions & Licensing Committee, examining the state’s licensing procedures for unnecessary and prejudicial obstacles to starting a business and building a future. Early childhood education and childcare services are critical for Delgado’s Northwest Side community and families across the state. As a member of the Childcare Access & Early Childhood Education Committee, she will make expanding services a top priority in the upcoming session. Additionally, she will serve on the Transportation: Vehicle Safety Committee, passing targeted legislation to improve safety and clean energy transportation infrastructure. As a member of the Gaming Committee, Delgado will work to prioritize investment opportunities without compromising accountability for present and future projects. Lastly, she will continue to advocate for a fair and equitable justice system as a member of the Judiciary: Civil Committee.

“Committee assignments are a great opportunity for my fellow legislators and I to vet meaningful and effective legislation that will improve the lives of everyday Illinoisans,” said Delgado. “One of the committees I want to focus on most is the Public Utilities committee. As vice chair, I want to make sure that working communities have access to programs that can help them make ends meet and keep services on, especially during these winter months when gas and electricity bills skyrocket.”

Delgado has a strong history of fighting for crime victims, clean energy and transportation initiatives, fairer licensing procedures and childcare services. She helped pass Senate Bill 593 which protects victims of human trafficking, sexual assault and stalking from their aggressors when they register to vote and participate in the democratic process. Delgado also amended the Higher Education Student Assistance Act to require universities to provide childcare information in their monetary assistance programs. She ensured that retail electric providers are transparent about the rates they charge to Illinois families through House Bill 4973.
