CHICAGO – State Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, will continue her fight for smart investment in historically underserved communities as a returning member of a key budget accountability and forecasting panel.
“One of the most basic expectations the people of Illinois have for their government—and rightly so—is that we be responsible custodians of taxpayer dollars and of the state’s finances,” Harper said. “Being once again appointed to this Commission keeps me positioned to help ensure that this standard is, and will continue to be, met.”
Harper will continue to serve as a legislative member of the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA), which helps state lawmakers stay well informed concerning state and national economics, revenue and debt projections, state and federal fiscal policies and state employee insurance and pension programs. It is responsible for preparing several key annual reports, including the annual Budget Summary and the annual Revenue Estimate and Economic Outlook report. Legislative members of the Commission are responsible for overseeing the process and for approving the Commission’s reports before they are issued.
“The work this panel does is a critical first step toward ensuring we continue to make smart investments in the communities that need it most,” Harper said. “This is a responsibility I take very seriously and with which I remain honored to have been entrusted. The people of Illinois need an advocate on matters such as this, who will be always reliable and ever mindful of their interests. Over the next two years, I aim to continue filling that role.”
