CHICAGO – Last week, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, visited Michele Clark Magnet School for a mental health fair and to kick off a scholarship fund aimed at helping students continue their education.
“The students here have been through a lot during their time in school,” Ford said. “From dealing with the uncertainty and effects of the pandemic, to tragically losing classmates to violence, it has not been an easy endeavor for anyone. We want to make sure these kids are supported, which is why we’re coming together as a community to help them in their next steps educationally.”
The scholarship drive, which Ford contributed $2,000 toward and was one of many donors, is collecting money to encourage and assist the school’s graduating class – which consists of 119 students – to further themselves through attending college or engaging some form of secondary trade. Raised money will go toward helping with college expenses and needs.
Additionally, students were able to have private access to a mental health fair which included conversations on behavioral health with guest speakers, interactive classes and more.
