CHICAGO – State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, will continue her advocacy for human rights and comprehensive immigration policy as the next chair of the House’s Immigration and Human Rights Committee.

“In light of recent actions by extremist politicians denigrating asylum seekers by busing them across our country, it is important now, more than ever, to stand up for human rights and against regressive policies,” Delgado said.

Delgado has made immigration policy a top priority during her time as state representative. She helped pass Senate Bill 3144, directing a task force that creates universal representation in legal proceedings for undocumented immigrants. She also fought for Cook County defenders to take on cases related to noncitizens at no charge, ensuring they can participate in the court system at no cost and without fear.

“Chicago’s Northwest Side is a rich cultural part of our state that has a long and proud history of immigrants starting a new life, raising children and building a future for their families,” Delgado said. “I will bring this experience to my position as I look forward to working with my colleagues to craft common sense, dignified and compassionate immigration policy.”
