SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, issued the following statement Wednesday upon taking office for a new term in the Illinois House:
“Throughout my time in office, I’ve known that making the commonsense voices of our communities heard is critical to addressing Illinois’ challenges – and working closely with the people I represent we’ve gotten results. As we continue building a brighter future for our state, we’ll undoubtedly face new challenges and I’ll answer them by making our voices heard.
“Our small businesses are critical to our state’s economy, and I will continue to fight for state resources and investment to spur growth and opportunity across our region. After enduring unprecedented hardship during the pandemic, our working families and small businesses are in need of assistance to face these challenges.
“We must continue to strengthen our public safety efforts by ensuring local first responders have the resources they need right now to fight crime and also attacking the root causes of crime by making smart investments in resources that build strong communities.
“As a lifelong educator, I am also committed to continuing the work to ensure every child has access to a world-class education. I will keep fighting to make sure that our early childhood education programs, K-12 schools, college, universities, vocational and technical schools are adequately funded so they can prepare their students to compete in a 21st Century economy.
“There’s no challenge we face that cannot be solved when commonsense solutions are prioritized above partisan fighting. By working together with my fellow legislators on both sides of the aisle I know that we can confront and overcome these challenges.”
