SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State Rep.  Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, issued the following statement Wednesday after taking office for a new legislative session:

“Thank you for entrusting me to represent our community in Springfield. Throughout my time in public service, my top priority has always been to support children and working families. In this new General Assembly, I will continue to fight to keep our streets safe and our schools well-funded so that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to grow and thrive.

“This year, I plan on continuing my work to expand health care coverage for all Illinoisans, including undocumented people. When I took my oath of office, I vowed to serve all people. For me, this has always and will always include communities of color who face unique challenges that are often overlooked. My promise to you is clear: I work for you and will never stop fighting for you.

“I am immensely proud to be a part of the most diverse General Assembly in state history. Diversity is our greatest strength and I am eager to see the tremendous benefits that this diversity will bring to our great state. By listening to each other and learning from experiences different from our own, we can build a stronger future for Illinois that will be enjoyed by generations to come.”
