Hanson Begins State Rep. Term, Emphasizes Need to Help Working Families

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Reiterating the need to prioritize and support working families, state Rep. Matt Hanson, D-Aurora, took the oath of office Wednesday as the General Assembly began its new two-year term.

“Residents expect representation that understands the challenges facing families across our community,” Hanson said. “I’ve heard loud and clear that Springfield needs to do more to invest in education, support public safety and develop our infrastructure so that we can be ready to meet the demands of a 21st century economy.”

Hanson, a railroad engineer, has previously served as a Kane County Board Commissioner, Kane County Forest Preserve Commissioner and with the Aurora Historic Preservation Commission. Voters selected him to represent the redrawn 83rd House District, which includes parts of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Montgomery, North Aurora, Oswego, St. Charles, Sugar Grove and Yorkville.

As the General Assembly begins, Hanson is focused on supporting policies that support workers’ rights, protect the most vulnerable, defend reproductive rights and crack down on gun violence.

“We must stand up for those whose rights are under attack,” Hanson said. “In the face of relentless pressure in neighboring states to curb reproductive health access, I support continued efforts to strengthen our reproductive freedoms here at home. This care is lifesaving, and we can never allow extreme politicians to get between a doctor and their patient.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in this role, and I look forward to a productive session that builds a stronger Illinois for everyone,” Hanson said.
