SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Maurice West, D-Rockford, issued the following statement Wednesday after being sworn in for a new term:
“As we begin a new General Assembly, it’s important that we continue to move Illinois forward. We must build on public safety reforms that will make our communities safer, reinforce protections for reproductive freedoms and prioritize economic action that will support jobs and invest in our schools.
“Addressing public safety is not a static issue. I will continue to engage stakeholders, local law enforcement and prosecutors on ways we can reduce violence in our region, and support efforts that remove dangerous weapons of war from our streets where they have no place.
“I am also committed to supporting needed investment in our local schools and colleges, and further developing job training programs that create a skilled workforce and make our area more attractive to business investment. From early childhood through adulthood, every individual in our community deserves access to quality education opportunities that enable them to pursue their dreams.
“With redistricting behind us, we have some new residents in the 67th District. My experienced office team is ready to engage and help people on the issues and concerns that matter to them.
“It is an incredible honor to serve the great communities of the 67th District, and I look forward to a productive session this year that reflects the priorities of families across my district and our state.”
