SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, issued this statement at the beginning of a new legislative session:

“I am honored to be representing Aurorans as their voice in Springfield once again. Validating the confidence placed in me by the voters is not a responsibility I take lightly, but I’m confident that the robust legislative agenda I have set is a step in the right direction.

“The specter of unsafe baby formula and the resulting formula shortages have hit countless Illinois families hard. At a time in which growing inflation already makes raising a family more difficult, limiting the supply of something so essential will place an even greater burden on parents. A steady supply of safe baby formula is non-negotiable, and I am drafting legislation to guarantee that.

“Immigrants face too many obstacles in our country. Currently, non-visa status people can obtain a temporary driver’s license (TVDL), but it features markings that indicate their undocumented status. Every person in my community has an equally strong claim to a good, fair life. Aurorans don’t support that kind of pointless labelling, and I will be filing a bill to end this disturbing practice.

“My priorities are always the priorities of the people I represent, so I look forward to using my voice in the House to be a voice for our community.”
