SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, issued the following statement Wednesday after being sworn in for a new term:

“As we begin a new General Assembly, it’s important that working families remain our top priority.

“From inflation relief to improving public safety to investing in education, working families deserve a responsible General Assembly that works for them. Many families are facing tough times, which is why it’s our job to support these individuals and create an environment that encourages economic growth within the Metro East.

“With responsible stewardship of our state finances, we’re now better positioned to make smart investments in these priorities. We’re receiving credit upgrades, we’re paying our bills on time and we’re actually investing in our rainy day fund with an eye to the future. Our state’s finances are in the best shape they’ve been in decades.

“Whether it’s tackling challenges with the unemployment system or making needed infrastructure investments, I have had the privilege of working directly with business and labor in negotiations that deliver real results for working families. In an era of hyper-partisanship, there still remains a responsible path of working together that can and should create solutions to challenges.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your state representative, and I am thankful to everyone I have met on the course of this journey. I am looking forward to a productive term, and I encourage residents to reach out to my office anytime they have feedback on the work we’re doing.”
