AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is asking the Aurora community to make their voices heard as she prepares the steps she will take in Springfield this session.
“One of my primary goals is always to put the needs of our community first,” Hernandez said. “The voices of the people of Aurora help set my priorities in Springfield, but that’s more challenging without local input. If you have issues you want me to address or measures you’d like me to consider, please contact me.”
Recent measures by Hernandez have included expanding access to menstrual hygiene products for all Illinoisans, ensuring more access for primarily Spanish-speaking people and working on keeping pregnant mothers healthy regardless of how much money they make. She has also put her support behind past major policy initiatives including the SAFE-T Act and the Reproductive Health Act.
Additionally, Hernandez is highlighting a way state employees can provide suggestions to make state government more efficient and effective. The State Government Suggestion Award Board can reward up to $5000 to individuals who provide ideas that result in financial savings for the state and taxpayers. “Of course, there are plenty of major issues facing us already, including combatting the gun violence epidemic, cutting the host of health care and securing the right to choose, and I am already working with my colleagues to tackle those,” Hernandez said. “I hope our community can work together to make this coming session even more productive.”
