CICERO, Ill. — State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, is encouraging local not-for-profit organizations to apply for the first-ever Human Services Capital Grant Program administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). Applications are due Dec. 30, 2022 and can be found at https://capitalgrant.tecsinc.com/.

“I am proud to represent a community that takes care of its own thanks to the many not-for-profit human service organizations that serve our area. The new Human Services Capital Grant Program will allow these organizations to grow and help even more people,” Hernandez said. “This grant opportunity will undoubtedly benefit marginalized communities in Illinois. I highly encourage local nonprofits to apply for this funding opportunity and bring those benefits to the 24th district. The deadline is quickly approaching, so I urge those interested in applying to do so as soon as possible.”

Not-for-profit human services providers that have provided services for at least two years to low-income and marginalized populations in Illinois are eligible to apply for the grant program. The organizations must operate in one of IDHS’s core divisions: Mental Health, Rehabilitation Services, Substance Use Prevention and Recovery, Family and Community Services, Developmental Disabilities, and Early Childhood. Awards will range from $50,000 to $250,000.
