Mayfield Announces Lake County Stop on ILBC Listening Tour

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, is announcing that, as part of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus (ILBC) Listening Tour, she will be hosting an event in conjunction with state Sen. Adriane Johnson on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the College of Lake County LakeShore Campus, 33 N. Genesee St. in Waukegan. The event will feature tours as well as listening hours. Many public and civic figures are slated to attend, including Mayfield and Johnson, state Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, several Waukegan Alderpersons, as well as representatives of Lake County, the Waukegan Public Library, and several local and state civic organizations.

“These listening tours are intended to make sure that everyone has a voice and the opportunity to speak their truth to those who represent them,” Mayfield said. “I’m looking forward to a big turnout because, with the upcoming start of the 103^rd General Assembly, having more clarity on what the needs and concerns of our constituents and their communities are can help us better hit the ground running.”

The event will commence with tours of the campus from 4:30 until 5:30, followed by listening hours from 5:30 until 7:30.

Government officials other than Mayfield and Schneider will include Waukegan Alderpersons Keith Turner and Lynn Florian, Lake County Board member Carissa Casbon, and Lake County Superintendent Michael Karner.

Civic organizations sending representatives include Northern Illinois Recovery Community Organization (NIRCO), Youth Conservation Corps, and Mano a Mano.
