EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – In recognition of the deadly tornado that destroyed an Edwardsville Amazon warehouse and took six lives, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is issuing the following statement:
“One year ago, our community was struck by a devastating tornado that took the lives of six Amazon workers and left an indelible mark on our community. For the family and friends of those who were lost, the pain from this tragedy may never fully fade, but neither will the memory of those individuals who lost their lives.
I believe that every worker deserves a safe and healthy work environment and I am committed to being a champion for workers’ safety and well-being. It is important that corporations such as Amazon implement and enforce safety measures, as well as provide their workers with ongoing training and support, and listen to and address the concerns of our workers.
I will always stand with our community and do everything possible both to honor the lives of those who were lost and prevent such losses from occurring in the future.”
