EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Edwardsville High School student-athletes are being recognized in the State Capitol under a resolution passed by state Rep. Katie Stuart, celebrating three Tiger teams bringing home state honors in 2022.
“Student athletics are a proud American tradition, and the group we have here in Edwardsville have shown us the best of that tradition,” Stuart said. “I am proud to represent them and their families in Springfield, and excited to be able to confer official recognition on their many, well-earned, accomplishments.”
Stuart passed House Resolution 1001, congratulating the Tigers, unanimously through the House this past week. The measure recognizes the entire Tiger athletics program, and specifically honors three stand-out teams:
- The varsity baseball team along with head coach Tim Funkhouser;
- The varsity boys track and field team, including outstanding runner Ryan Watts and head coach Chad Lakatos;
- The varsity softball team and head coach Lori Blade.
The resolution concludes: “We congratulate Edwardsville High School and its student athletes, the Tigers, on an incredibly successful spring 2022 athletic season; and… we congratulate Edwardsville High School’s coaches and supporters on their success, and we thank them for their guidance and dedication to the student athletes.”
A copy of the resolution will be presented to Edwardsville High School.
