SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, will join Illinois Harm Reduction and Recovery Coalition Co-founder and Chair Chelsea Laliberté Barnes and advocates Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for a Blue Room press conference on the impact of fentanyl on communities across the state.

“We’re losing an alarming number of people nationwide and here in Illinois due to fentanyl,” Ford said. “Instead of pursuing bad policies that stigmatize addiction and penalize those who need help, we have to be smart with policy that delivers real resources to those who deserve care. The consequences of this drug leave no community untouched, which is why we have to step up and develop solutions together.”

Laliberté Barnes and participants will discuss the impact fentanyl has had on their families, as well as available resources for those in need. Ford will also explain how the Legislature can act to support treatment and services that can help those in need of care.
