BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, encourages eligible homeowners to apply for the Illinois Homeowner Development Authority’s Housing Assistance Fund (ILHAF). The assistance program seeks to provide qualifying candidates with up to $30,000 in emergency housing assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I strongly recommend those who qualify for the program apply for mortgage assistance,” Avelar said. “With the upcoming winter months, it is essential that we take care financially, especially with the added expenses and the increased energy cost to keep our families warm in the winter.”

ILHAF provides income-eligible homeowners with financial security to those who have experienced COVID-19 related hardships. The state will start accepting applications for direct mortgage assistance to eligible homeowners on Nov. 1, and will remain open until funds run out. Those eligible are homeowners who have experienced financial troubles related to the COVID-19 pandemic after Jan. 21, 2020.

“The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the finances of thousands of working-class families across Illinois,” Avelar said. “This program is meant to keep families financially stable and prevent mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures. I encourage all who qualify and are experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19 to apply.”
