CICERO, Ill. — State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, in partnership with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, is offering a free FAFSA Completion Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cicero Community Center at 2250 S. 49th Ave. in Cicero.

“There are so many benefits to earning a college degree, but financing higher education is difficult for many families,” Hernandez said. “Even though there are federal resources available, many have difficulty navigating the system. We’re hosting this free event so that every college bound student can get the aid they need.”

FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the first step in applying for federal grants, work-study and loans to pay for college or graduate school. Event attendees will be guided through the FAFSA application process. There is also an alternative application available for undocumented students. Attendees should remember to bring their social security number or alien registration number, 2021 federal tax returns, banking statements, record of untaxed income, an FSA ID and a list of colleges you’d like to attend. Interested students and families should register online at https://tinyurl.com/2022fafsaevent.
