CHICAGO – State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, will host a CityKey event to help Chicagoans register for optional government-issued ID cards on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Belmont City of God at 6050 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago’s NorthWest side.
“CityKey is a great way for Chicagoans to take advantage of the many opportunities the city has to offer,” Delgado said. “By partnering with public and private sector organizations, CityKey will allow residents to open a bank account with partnering institutions, swipe their CTA Ventra card, and check out library books, all in one card.”
Delgado is encouraging residents to get a CityKey, which provides the holder with a valid, government-issued photo ID, as well as a library card, access to Chicago Rx prescription discount information, the ability to rent an apartment or secure a building permit, and donate blood. A CityKey does not allow card holders to travel in an airport or replace their driver’s license.
“Through CityKey, people from underserved communities, regardless of citizenship status, have access to numerous resources to help overcome financial and institutional barriers,” Delgado said. “I encourage people to come out on Saturday and take advantage of this great opportunity.”
In order to take advantage of the 250 available CityKeys, Chicago residents are encouraged to come early with a form of identification that includes the applicant’s photograph, date of birth and proof of city residency.
Translators and other application resources will be available.
