EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will prioritize responsible investment and smart, equitable contracting as a new member of a state panel tasked with exploring reforms to state purchasing policies.
“Ensuring fairness and accountability in state procurement is in the interest of everyone,” Stuart said. “I am honored by this appointment and I look forward to taking an active role in streamlining and enhancing our state’s procurement systems to better ensure the fair, equitable, accessible, and cost-effective process that every Illinoisan has a right to expect from their government.”
Stuart led the effort to create the State Procurement Task Force by passing House Bill 2770, and was appointed to serve on the task force by House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch. As a task force member, Stuart will help to ensure that Illinois’ procurement processes are equitable, efficient, cost-effective, flexible and equally accessible to both women-owned and minority-owned businesses.
