CHICAGO – State Rep. Fran Hurley is encouraging interested Illinois State Police (ISP) candidates to apply by Monday, Aug. 15 to be considered for the January 2023 cadet class.

“For those who want to pursue a career of service, this is a wonderful opportunity to work for a great organization that supports its members,” Hurley said. “It is not easy work, but it is a critical service that residents across our state depend on each and every day. I appreciate and am thankful for everyone who chooses to take this step and pursue a career with the Illinois State Police.”

The Illinois State Police Merit Board is responsible for reviewing and selecting ISP candidates. Applications for the January 2023 cadet class can be accessed online at https://illinoistrooper.com/index.php/cadet-applicant-process. The Illinois State Police Merit Board’s website also includes details about physical fitness test requirements, recruiter phone numbers and other information.

If selected, cadets participate in a 26-week, para-military environment training academy. Cadets are provided lodging, meals and most necessary supplies and equipment. Most weekends, cadets are allowed to travel home.
