EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, will help spearhead an effort to help secure reproductive health care access as a member of the House Reproductive Health and Dobbs Decision Working Group.
“A person’s bodily autonomy is dependent on maintaining their legal right and affordable access to reproductive health care. In my role on this working group, I will be seeking serious legislative approaches to preserving that right against the assault by a partisan Supreme Court and deeply-misguided interest groups,” Greenwood said. “It’s further vital to address that the Supreme Court’s movement against the right to an abortion is just one of many steps they plan to take to curtail marriage equality, contraception, interracial marriage and other hard-won freedoms. The legislative solutions we propose will take that into account.”
Greenwood will join the House Reproductive Health and Dobbs Decision Working Group, led by state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, will also include state Reps Dagmara Avelar, Lakesia Collins, Greg Harris, Anna Moeller, Ann Williams, Terra Costa Howard and Margaret Croke.
The group will work with stakeholders to develop comprehensive legislation to preserve access to abortion and other forms of reproductive healthcare.
“In recent years, Illinois has proven itself a leader in the fight for reproductive rights,” Greenwood said. “Maintaining our record of robust support for the right to choose and continuing to advance that right within Illinois is our goal.”
