DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Anne-Stava-Murray, D-Downers Grove, is holding a “Back 2 School Drive” collecting supplies to help send local students back to class with the materials they need. Donations of all types of school supplies can be dropped off at Stava-Murray’s constituent service office, 633 Rogers St. in Downers Grove, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day between Aug. 16 and Aug. 19.
“With a new school year getting underway, students will be looking for the whole range of classroom supplies every student needs to learn successfully,” Stava-Murray said. “This supply drive is about coming together as a community to pitch in for those families who may be struggling due to lingering effects of the pandemic and other factors like inflation.”
While Stava-Murray collects supplies for local students, she is also working to provide relief for families dealing with rising costs. Stava-Murray voted to cut the state sales tax on school supplies and children’s clothing items individually priced at less than $125 between now and August 15. Consumers can take advantage of the tax holiday even when purchasing qualifying items to donate.
“The current sales tax holiday is a perfect opportunity for our community to come together to support our students as they take another step toward becoming our future leaders and innovators,” Stava-Murray said. “Education is the foundation of a strong society, and our commitment to our children is part of what makes us great. I encourage everyone to chip in toward this great cause.”
