Carpentersville, Ill. – Representative Suzanne Ness (D-Crystal Lake) wants to inform community members of the upcoming tax holiday starting August 5th through the 14th. During this 10-day period, sales tax on classroom supplies and other qualified items such as clothing and shoes will decrease from 6.25% to 1.25%.

“I hope this tax holiday eases some of the burden that comes with back-to-school shopping,” said Ness. “The extreme inflation is hitting Illinois residents very hard, so this will hopefully be one less thing that families will have to worry about during this time.”

The tax holiday for school supplies was passed back in April as part of a bigger relief package for residents of Illinois. Along with the reduction of sales tax on school supplies, there will no longer be sales tax on groceries until June 30, 2023 and the regularly scheduled tax increase on gasoline has been pushed to January 2023.
