DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Anne Stava-Murray is announcing that her office will be holding a document shredding event this Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at her constituent service office located at 633 Rogers St. in Downers Grove.

“Identity theft is an increasing problem and one of the best ways to avoid becoming a victim is to safely dispose of sensitive documents,” Stava-Murray said. “Safely shredding documents containing sensitive or personally identifiable information prevents identity thieves from using that information to compromise your identity or financial security.”

Documents it may be a good idea to dispose of securely include old bank statements, bills, tax returns, outdated medical records or any other document containing sensitive or private information; and which the owner does not need or want to keep.

All CDC Guidelines will be followed and enforced throughout the event.

“Once your sensitive data has been exposed to thieves, it may already be too late,” Stava-Murray said. “I encourage everyone who has sensitive papers they don’t want to keep to get them together and take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of them securely.”
