CHICAGO – Following her selection by The Council of State Governments (CSG), state Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, is announcing that she is one of 48 state-level officials nationwide who will participate in the 2022 CSG Henry Toll Fellowship in Lexington, Kentucky.
“I am honored to be selected for this Fellowship, and proud to represent Illinois in this prestigious program,” Harper said. “This is a priceless opportunity and I look forward to bringing my newfound experience to bear in tackling the many issues and problems facing our state.”
The CSG bills the Henry Toll Fellowship as the nation’s premier leadership development program for state government officials. It has been held every year since 1986 and involves a five-day leadership “boot camp” which consists of up to 48 state leaders from across all branches of government as well as political parties. “Toll Fellows are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to solve problems, to work collaboratively to get things done, and their belief that state government can and must be a force for good,” said CSG Executive Director and CEO David Adkins.
One of the requirements for becoming a Toll Fellow is completion of CSG’s BILLD Program – The Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership. Rep. Harper is a BILLD alumna and currently serves on the steering committee that selects lawmakers from across the nation to participate in the program.
