JOLIET, Ill. – Continuing his support for veterans, active-duty service members and their families, state Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, in partnership with the Office of Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, is hosting a presentation on Military and Veterans rights. The event will take place on July 18 at 10 a.m. at Senior Services of Will County Center, 251 N. Center St. in Joliet.

“Our service members sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe and protect our freedom,” Walsh said. “Protecting them from fraud and ensuring their access to the benefits they’ve earned is the least we can do to repay them for their service.”

Event attendees will learn how to avoid scams targeting VA pension programs, apply for burial benefits and ensure proper recognition of the deceased veteran’s service, protect civilian employment benefits while fulfilling military requirements and receive assistance in advocating for their legal rights.

“Veterans and active-duty service members are the heart and soul of our community, state and country. These brave individuals deserve all of the benefits available to them,” said Walsh. “I am proud to offer this useful educational programming to make sure this community receives the assistance they need to live full lives.”
