CHICAGO – In the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Highland Park, as well as continued gun violence in Chicago and around the state, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, is calling on Gov. J.B. Pritzker to order flags at half-staff as a show of unity and remembrance for all of those lost to gun violence.

“We need to come together as a state and bring attention to all lives lost to senseless gun violence in our state,” Ford said. “No matter your race, no matter your background, no matter you zip code, we are all impacted by the pain and trauma of these tragedies. If we want to effectively address gun violence, we have to work together and be united as one Illinois. There are communities that feel they have been overlooked, and we have to do a better job of showing that nobody is being left behind. No life that is lost should be forgotten, we have to take real action together.”

Ford is encouraging the governor’s office to direct flags to be half-staff out of respect for all the lives lost due to violence of any kind and to lead with a formal unity against violence happening in every community across the state. More information on the state’s flag honors is available at: https://www.illinois.gov/about/flag-honors.html.
