SHOREWOOD, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, is partnering with Troy Township Supervisor Joseph D. Baltz and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s community outreach team to host a seminar on consumer rights and common scams. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 12 at 6 p.m. at the Troy Township Community Center at 25448 Seil Road in Shorewood.

“Everyone is vulnerable to different types of fraud or unfair business practices,” Walsh said. “Fortunately, there are ways to prevent falling prey to these schemes and there are organizations that can help when things go wrong.”

Event attendees will learn how to recognize the latest scams, protect themselves from fraud and deceptive business practices and understand their rights as consumers. The event will also provide information on how to turn to the Attorney General’s office if help is needed.

“Scams have the potential to cause serious financial harm. It is essential that people know their rights and how to protect themselves,” said Walsh. “I invite everyone to join us for this learning experience so they can protect themselves against scams and other types of fraud. Thank you to Troy Township and the Attorney General’s office for their partnership in bringing this important educational programming to our community.”

This event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, please call 815-744-1963 or email ascaggs@troytownship.com.
