NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, issued this statement following the mass shooting at a July 4th parade in Highland Park, Ill.:
“Yesterday morning, on a day of celebration of our nation’s founding and history, Highland Park, the state of Illinois and the rest of the country was alerted to yet another senseless and violent mass shooting. I mourn with the families of the six who were killed and the dozens of others maimed by bullet wounds and other scars of the trauma they experienced. While a person of interest was brought into custody, for many justice can never be served. Those who were lost in yesterday’s violent attack can never be replaced.
“The Fourth of July should be a day of celebration for our nation. Instead, the day will be another in a series of violent, lethal and heart wrenching mass shootings that highlight our uniquely American problem: gun violence. As your representative, I will always stand up for policy that keeps people safe, and I will continue to push for more national legislation to stop our nation’s gun violence.”
