ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — In recognition of Juneteenth National Freedom Day, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, released the following statement:

“Given the long history of racial tension in the United States, which has been magnified in recent years, properly honoring Juneteenth is vitally important. The lasting impact that slavery, segregation, and racial injustice has on Black people is something that needs to be acknowledged and addressed. Let Juneteenth be an opportunity for all Americans to actively listen to and amplify Black voices, and to work together to grow as a community.”
