DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – State Representative Anne Stava-Murray released the following statement for Gun Violence Awareness Day, June 3, 2022.

“This year’s observance of Gun Violence Awareness Day is especially poignant. The twenty-one people who were killed—along with seventeen more who were wounded—in Uvalde, TX on May 24th are, sadly, just one prominent example of the scourge of gun violence sweeping the nation in recent years. In our own state of Illinois, gun violence has spiked as well. It is past time for leaders at every level of government to step up and give us solutions, not excuses. Enough is enough. Today, we wear orange to signify our refusal to accept any more senseless, preventable carnage. The United States is the only well-resourced nation on Earth that has this problem and we can choose a different way. Since being elected, my colleagues and I have consistently fought for better gun laws. It is time for more of our leaders at all levels to join us in making that choice and in acting decisively. It is time for leaders who cannot or will not do so to be replaced. We can choose to end this. Or we can choose to let it continue. It is entirely in our hands.”
