ROCKFORD, Ill. – In advance of Memorial Day, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, will visit, celebrate and highlight local veteran organizations next week that dedicate their time to serve our local heroes.
“It’s important not just to support our service members when they choose to serve our country, but also when they come home as well,” Vella said. “We have a lot of great local organizations helping our veterans, I encourage residents to join me in supporting them.”
Vella will visit the following organizations next week to meet with veterans, volunteers and staff:
- Rockford Vet Center: Tuesday, May 24; 11 a.m. to noon; 7015 Rote Rd., Rockford
- Harlem Veterans Project: Wednesday, May 25; 11 a.m. to noon; 1 Huskie Cir., Machesney Park
- Rockford Veterans Drop-in Center; Thursday, May 26; Noon to 1 p.m.; 1538 S. 4th St., Rockford
- Veterans Memorial Hall; Friday, May 27; 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 211 N. Main St., Rockford
Vella also intends to highlight Operation Fallen Flags on social media on Monday, May 23.
“If you’re a veteran looking for help accessing resources or want to connect with an area organization, please give my office a call at 815-329-6741 and we’ll work to help you out,” Vella said. “As Memorial Day approaches, we all need to take a moment to think about the sacrifices made for our country, and of the countless individuals in our community who have stepped up to serve.”
