Ford Responds to CPD Shooting of 13-year-old

CHICAGO – State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after the reported shooting of an unarmed 13-year-old boy by Chicago Police Wednesday night in Austin:

“It is disheartening to learn of the early details involving yesterday’s police response to a carjacking that left a 13-year-old shot and wounded. We all want to put an end to carjackings, but we clearly do not want to see an apparently unarmed child shot by responding officers. It’s critically important that a thorough, fair review is conducted by appropriate oversight bodies. Trust between law enforcement and the community is an integral part of any comprehensive plan to address public safety, and this is an incident that will require transparency and thoughtful review in the coming days. My thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted.”
