DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – State Representative Anne Stava-Murray, D-Downers Grove, today condemned the leaked draft of a U.S. Supreme Court decision which, if it reflects the Court’s ultimate decision, will abolish the 50-year-old landmark case, Roe v. Wade, which guarantees the right to reproductive freedom.
“If this leaked decision is real, then this is a black day in the history of the United States,” said Rep. Stava-Murray. “Roe v. Wade was and is a key part of the foundation of women’s rights in the United States, and overturning it will undermine the ability of people everywhere to make their own choices about their health. I unequivocally condemn this decision – which is based on transparently faulty legal logic and shot through with obvious partisan intent.”
If Roe is overturned, the right to abortion will still be protected by Illinois law. Twenty-six other states, however, either will or will likely ban abortions.
