CICERO, Ill. — To honor children and promote children’s literacy, state Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, is hosting a Día de Los Niños (Children’s Day) Celebration on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at her district office located at 6117 Cermak Rd. in Cicero.
“Our children represent the hopes and dreams of our community, and we must do everything we can to fully nurture and support them,” said Hernandez. “Día de Los Niños is a great way to provide the youth of our community with a fun, educational experience that will inspire them to read, learn and reach their full potential.”
The Día de Los Niños began in Mexico in the mid 1920s and is still a highly anticipated event where children are celebrated, appreciated, and recognized for their importance and value to our society.
The Día de Los Niños celebration will feature four children’s authors and a poet, all of whom will read and discuss their work with event attendees. Snacks, coloring books, PPE and backpacks will be provided.
The Día de Los Niños celebration is one of many ways Rep. Hernandez advocates for children across Illinois. This past legislative session, she passed a responsible budget that provides millions of dollars for early childhood and K-12 education, as well as community-based youth development programs to support children in and out of the classroom.
“The children of today will become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Hernandez. “I invite everyone to bring their children to our Día de Los Niños event to hear from children’s authors, enjoy books and celebrate children and families in our community.”
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Rep. Hernandez’s district office at Office@RepEHernandez.com or 708-222-5240.
