SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –- After learning of the racist, antisemitic and homophobic comments of a now-former Springfield police officer, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, released the following statement:
“I am deeply disturbed by the horrendously bigoted statements made by this now-former employee of the Springfield Police Department. Those ideas are disgusting and shameful, and go against everything our community stands for. I am grateful to the Springfield Police Department for their quick disciplinary response and I look forward to seeing this matter thoroughly investigated.”
