BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is highlighting the upcoming availability of housing assistance grants from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IDHA) through the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF).
“Many households still impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are struggling to make their mortgage payments, which could lead to foreclosure, housing insecurity and displacement,” said Avelar. “The ILHAF will ensure those most at risk of foreclosure receive the aid they need to stay safe in their homes.”
The Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund is a federally funded program that will provide housing assistance to those impacted by the financial hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic. ILHAF will offer grants of up to $30,000 of assistance to approved applicants to eliminate or reduce delinquent mortgage and property tax payments. Applications will be considered based on several criteria, such as the degree of need and household income.
“ILHAF is another example of state support as we continue to combat the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Avelar. “I encourage the homeowners of our community to apply for aid from ILHAF if they need assistance.”
The official application window will open in April. IDHA is hosting informational webinars on program eligibility and how to apply in English and Spanish. English webinars will be on Thursday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m., and the Spanish webinar will take place on Thursday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m.
