BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, in partnership with state Sen. John Connor, D-Lockport, is collecting menstrual and hygiene product donations to benefit United Way of Will County.
“A lack of access to menstrual and hygiene products prevents people from attending school or work and fully participating in their daily lives,” said Avelar. “Everyone deserves easy access to products that ensure their health and hygiene. I encourage everyone to give what they can to support our community members in need.”
Avelar’s office is accepting donations of menstrual products such as sanitary pads, tampons and liners, as well as full-sized shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and bars of soap. Individuals can donate online by visiting amzn.to/3sqr0gC or items can be dropped off at the following locations:
- Dagmara “Dee” Avelar’s District Office, 623 E Boughton Rd. Suite 130, Bolingbrook, IL, 60440
- John Connor’s District Office, 20660 Caton Farm Rd. Unit D, Crest Hill, IL, 60403
- Romeoville Police Department, 1050 Romeo Rd #1050, Romeoville, IL, 60446
Throughout her time in office, Avelar has been a strong advocate for menstrual product access. Last session, she supported measures to make menstrual products free for students in school bathrooms and to allow menstrual products to be purchased with SNAP or WIC benefits.
“I am grateful to United Way of Will County for helping to provide menstrual and hygiene necessities to those in need in our community,” said Avelar. “I will continue to support legislation that increases access to these products and promotes the wellbeing of families across the state.”
