SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After this week’s indictment of former House Speaker Michael Madigan, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued the following statement:

“After reviewing the indictment of Michael Madigan, I am saddened and incredibly disappointed to read how he allegedly took advantage of our institution for personal gain. If found guilty, he should be held fully accountable by our justice system. Nobody is above the law.”

“This situation serves as a reminder of why we need strong ethics in our state. I am so proud to have supported Emmanuel “Chris” Welch to be the new Speaker of the House last year, and together we passed needed ethics reforms, term limits on House leadership, as well as new protections for women and a landmark clean energy and jobs plan that will bring so much to my district.”

“I remain committed to strengthening our state’s ethics rules and delivering real results that prioritize the needs of families in our community.”
