Naperville, Ill. – As a part of her continued efforts to promote community safety, state Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, is reminding residents to prepare for severe winter weather.

“Winter weather in Illinois is unavoidable, but taking simple precautions against extreme cold, ice and snow can save lives,” said Yang Rohr. “From adjusting driving habits to ensuring proper home heating, there are several ways to prepare for winter weather at home and while traveling.”

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency released their 2021 Winter Weather Preparedness Guide to help Illinois residents identify easy steps they can take to prepare for severe winter weather. The guide recommends that residents familiarize themselves with winter weather terminology to best understand the risk level for the counties they live and work in. The guide also recommends residents winterize their homes and vehicles and create emergency survival kits to keep in both locations.

“As the holiday season approaches, I highly recommend community members use the 2021 Winter Weather Preparedness Guide to get ready for the upcoming winter,” said Yang Rohr. “By preparing in advance, we can ensure a safe holiday season for our families and community.”
