DECATUR, Ill.State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is recommending residents take advantage of the healthcare.gov’s extended open enrollment period for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act which starts on Nov. 1 and ends on Jan. 15, 2022.

“The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have shown how important it is to prioritize the health of ourselves and our loved ones,” said Scherer. “Although health emergencies are not predictable and happen unexpectedly, being prepared is something we can control.”

Scherer is encouraging all residents to make sure that they have health insurance coverage for the upcoming year by enrolling in a plan during the open enrollment period. Typically, the open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 until Dec. 15 but it was extended to Jan. 15 because of the ongoing COVID-9 pandemic. To enroll in a plan or find more information, please visit www.healthcare.gov

“It’s important to start reviewing options and planning now so that people can select the best option for themselves,” Scherer said. “Residents without health insurance need to be aware of this enrollment period and the options available to them so that they and their families will have access to adequate health care as we continue to manage the pandemic.”

For any questions concerning the ACA open enrollment period, state issues, legislation or district matters, please contact Scherer’s full-time constituent office at 217-877-9636 or email staterepsue@gmail.com.
