CHICAGO – To ensure that residents are receiving the support they are entitled to, state Rep. Cyril Nichols, D-Chicago, is encouraging residents to take a few moments and see if they are eligible for the Child Tax Credit (CTC).

“While everyone has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we are getting support to those who have been hit the hardest,” said Nichols. “I highly encourage those with children to take advantage of these tax credits and get this much needed financial relief.”

The CTC provides families with a monthly payment for each child under the age of 17 in their care. Residents can receive $300 a month for each child under the age of 6 and $250 a month for children ages 6 through 17. Couples making up to $150,000 and single parents making up to $112,500 are eligible to receive the CTC. Those who filed tax returns in 2019 and 2020 automatically receive the credit, while those who did not file their taxes must apply. “With the many financial burdens that have fallen on working families throughout this past year and a half, the Child Tax Credit is an important tool in helping parents take care of their children,” said Nichols. “Working families need relief now more than ever, and I look forward to continuing to work to ensure that we are getting them the support they need both now and going forward.”
