ROCKFORD, Ill. – As part of his efforts to give back to those who protect our country, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, is recognizing Veterans Day while he continues to work to provide resources to veterans throughout Illinois.
“This Veterans Day, it is important that we take the time to properly thank those who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” said Vella. “With all that they have done for our country, it is critical that we have their back and help them succeed here at home.”
This Veterans Day, Vella will be taking the day to visit with veterans around the district, attending events at the Belvidere VFW and the Rock Valley College Student Veteran’s Association. In order to ensure that veterans are being sufficiently supported, Vella backed a number of pieces of legislation helping veterans. This session, he supported bills that would promote veteran-owned small businesses by exempting them from county and municipal license fees and easing regulatory burdens on the businesses. He also backed legislation cracking down on companies that target veterans through deceptive practices.
“With the many challenges that veterans may face due to their past service, we as a community must come together and do our part in helping them,” said Vella. “Providing our veterans with the resources they need is the right thing to do, and I will continue my efforts to ensure that no veteran is left behind.”
