CHICAGO – To ensure residents have access to health insurance, state Rep. Lakesia Collins, D-Chicago, is encouraging residents to take advantage of the extended open enrollment period to sign up for health insurance. The open enrollment period starts on Nov. 1 and ends on Jan. 15, 2022.

“After facing a pandemic for over a year, access to affordable and quality health coverage is essential,” said Collins, “Open enrollment presents the opportunity for residents to look more into their healthcare options and make sure their healthcare plan aligns with their needs.”

The time period for open enrollment lasts from Nov. 1 until Jan. 15. The enrollment period was extended due to the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Plans cover essential health benefits, preexisting conditions and preventative services to those qualified. Collins is encouraging all residents to take advantage of this extension and make sure they are insured as the pandemic continues. To enroll in a plan or get more information, please visit www.healthcare.gov.

“One of the best ways to take care of your health is to ensure that you have an adequate health insurance plan,” Collins said. “I encourage anyone that is in need of new health insurance or interested in switching up their health coverage to visit the open enrollment website and explore your options.”
