CHICAGO – To ensure that residents are able to enroll in a health insurance plan, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is encouraging local residents to take note of the upcoming extended open enrollment period which starts on Nov. 1 and ends on Jan. 15, 2022.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the critical importance of having access to health care coverage,” said Slaughter. “Although we don’t know what will happen to us, we do know that it is better to prepared and covered than not. As open enrollment begins, please take time to research what is available and make sure that those you care about and you have a health plan in place.”

Slaughter is encouraging all residents to make sure that they have health insurance coverage for the upcoming year by enrolling in a plan during the open enrollment period. Typically, the open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 until Dec. 15 but it was extended to Jan.15 because of the ongoing COVID-9 pandemic. “In particular, it’s absolutely critical for Black and Brown communities to have adequate health coverage,” said Slaughter. “With the many health and economic disparities facing our communities, we cannot afford to miss the opportunity to get enrolled in a health insurance plan.”
